East London NHS Foundation Trust (ELFT) is a provider of mental health, learning disability and community services in east London. It was formed in April 2012 following the merger of three predecessor organisations: Newham Primary Care Trust, Tower Hamlets Primary Care Trust and City & Hackney Mental Health Teaching NHS Trust. The trust is one of the largest providers of mental health care in England, providing services to more than 1 million people across East London. Its core activities include acute psychiatric care, specialist services for adults with complex needs such as personality disorder or dual diagnosis; child and adolescent mental health services; crisis teams; older adult mental health services; learning disabilities; alcohol misuse treatment; physical healthcare within secure settings and community outreach programmes. ELFT also works closely with local partners including universities and councils to provide integrated healthcare solutions for patients in their communities. ELFT’s vision is “to be a leading provider of quality mental health, learning disability and community services that make a positive difference to people’s lives”. The trust has an ambition to build on its existing success by developing innovative models of service delivery that are designed around patient need rather than organisational boundaries. In order to achieve this vision ELFT has established key partnerships with other organisations including commissioners from local authorities, Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs), other trusts (acute hospitals) across East London as well as private sector providers such as GPs practices and social enterprises which help deliver integrated healthcare solutions tailored around the individual patient’s needs. ELFT is committed to delivering high-quality care based on best practice guidelines whilst also focusing on improving access through technological innovation like online self-referrals or digital consultations with clinicians via video links when appropriate – both initiatives are helping reduce waiting times while increasing accessibility at the same time.
