The North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust (NWAS) is an NHS trust that provides ambulance services to the people of England. It serves a population of 7 million, covering Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire and Merseyside. The trust was formed in 2006 following the merger of three previous trusts: North West Ambulance Service, Mersey Regional Ambulance Service and Cumbria Ambulance Service.

The trust operates over 600 ambulances as well as helicopters and rapid response vehicles. It employs more than 5500 staff including paramedics, emergency medical technicians (EMTs), call handlers and support staff. NWAS is responsible for providing emergency care to those in need throughout its service area. This includes responding to 999 calls for help from members of the public who are ill or injured; transporting patients to hospital; providing out-of-hours urgent care services; running patient transport services; delivering training courses; supporting major events such as marathons and football matches; providing community first responder schemes; and carrying out research into improving ambulance services.

NWAS also works closely with other healthcare providers in the region such as GPs, hospitals and social care teams to ensure that patients receive timely access to appropriate treatment. In addition, it works with local authorities on initiatives such as falls prevention programmes which aim to reduce avoidable trips to A&E departments by older people living at home independently.
