About Asoryu Aikido Club

Welcome to Asoryu Aikido Club, a local amateur community sports club. Why Choose Aikido? Aikido is a unique and highly effective Japanese martial art intended to train the body, the mind and the spirit and can be practiced by both the young and elderly alike. If you are considering taking training in a martial art then Aikido, which does not use strength, expands your mental alertness, develops your self-confidence and improves your level of fitness, could be the "way" for you. Classes are on Saturdays from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at Lighthouse Centre, 10 Linden Road, Birkby, Huddersfield, HD2 2TP. Instruction by a Japan trained, 5th Dan, Traditional Aikido Coach. Asoryu Aikido Club is affiliated to the following Aikido associations; the Go Shin Kai Aikido Association & the BAB (British Aikido Board) and has been running for 10 years in Huddersfield. Aikido is purely defensive, with restraining techniques to disable an attacker without injuring them. Developed by O Sensei, Ueshiba Morihei; Aikido is often translated as "the Way of unifying (with) life energy" or as "the Way of harmonious spirit." O Sensei's goal was to create an art that practitioners could use to defend themselves while also protecting their attacker from injury. Aikido is performed by blending with the motion of the attacker and redirecting the force of the attack rather than opposing it head-on. This requires very little physical energy, as the Aikido practitioner "leads" the attacker's momentum using entering and turning movements. The techniques are completed with various throws, joint locks and immobilisations. Aikido promotes and encourages the Japanese traditions of etiquette and respect in training: Asoryu Aikido Club, at all times, maintains an all-inclusive policy. We do not permit any form of; ageism, racism, sexism, religious intolerance or any other kind of isms or intolerances to exist within our club. At Asoryu Aikido Club, all Club members can expect and rely upon the principles of; respect, fair treatment, the protection of basic human rights and the right to be heard.
