Doncaster Primary Care Trust (PCT) was a healthcare organisation that provided health and social care services to the residents of Doncaster, South Yorkshire, England. It was part of the National Health Service and had responsibility for planning and commissioning health services for the local population. The PCT was responsible for ensuring that people in Doncaster received good quality healthcare and it also had a role in public health and community development. The PCT was formed in 2002 from the merger of the former Doncaster District Health Authority and Doncaster Community Health Council. It employed over 4,000 staff and had an annual budget of £400 million. Its main areas of work included commissioning hospital services, providing community-based services such as health visitors and district nurses, running local clinics, providing mental health services and helping to promote healthy lifestyles. The PCT worked closely with other organisations to ensure that local people received the best possible care. These included GPs, hospitals, voluntary organisations and social care providers. It also ran a number of campaigns to raise awareness about issues such as obesity, smoking cessation, alcohol misuse and teenage pregnancy. In April 2013, Doncaster PCT ceased to exist as part of a national reorganisation of NHS organisations into Clinical Commissioning Groups. Its functions were taken over by NHS Doncaster CCG.
