he Laura Ashley Hotel The Belsfield in Windermere is a superb example of Victorian Italiante architecture, and is amongst the grandest Victorian Buildings on Lake Windermere. Built in 1845 as a private residence for the Baroness Von Sternberg, the house was acquired by the steel magnate Henry Schnieder in 1869 and converted to a hotel in 1892 and extended to provide additional bedrooms shortly before the First World War.
