About Universal Credit Calculator

Universal Credit Calculator is a free, independent tool that helps claimants and advisers work out what Universal Credit a household is entitled to under the Welfare Reform Act 2012 and the Universal Credit Regulations 2013. It applies the 2026/27 rates in force from 6 April 2026: standard allowance, child elements, the disabled child element, the health element at both of its two rates, the carer element, the childcare element, and the housing element with Local Housing Allowance, bedroom entitlement and the under-occupancy reduction. It then applies what comes off: the work allowance and 55% taper, the capital tariff, the benefit cap and the deductions cap. Fourteen calculators cover entitlement, housing, bedroom entitlement, bedroom tax, savings and capital, the health element, childcare costs, self-employment and the minimum income floor, better-off-in-work, the administrative earnings threshold, payment dates and assessment periods, deductions and advances, the benefit cap, and hardship payments after a sanction. Thirteen guides explain the same rules in prose, including what changed in April 2026 when the two-child limit ended and the health element split into two rates. Every rate the calculators use comes from one file, so a figure in a guide can never disagree with the figure the tool used, and every page carries the primary sources it was built from, with the date those figures were last checked. Sources are GOV.UK, DWP's Advice for Decision Making and published benefit and pension rates, legislation.gov.uk and the National Archives caselaw service. The calculators and guides are maintained and checked by Matilda Rose Edwards, the site's researcher and editor. Not affiliated with the Department for Work and Pensions, Jobcentre Plus, HM Revenue and Customs, or the UK Government. It gives an estimate, not a benefit decision.
