Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust is a large NHS hospital trust in the South West of England. It provides acute and specialist care for more than 500,000 people living in the city of Plymouth and surrounding areas. The trust operates three main hospitals – Derriford Hospital, Mount Gould Hospital and Plympton Health Centre. In addition, it also runs many community services such as midwifery, mental health services and rehabilitation services.

The trust provides a range of medical specialties including general surgery, paediatrics, orthopaedics, maternity, ophthalmology and urology. It is one of the largest trauma centres in the South West providing advanced emergency care for major life-threatening injuries.

The trust is a major teaching hospital which hosts medical students from both Plymouth University and Exeter University each year. As part of their commitment to patient safety they have adopted best practice in their clinical governance systems with the introduction of Clinical Practice Facilitators (CPFs) who provide education and support to junior doctors on topics such as medication management and communication skills.
