Mersey Care NHS Trust is a mental health and learning disability trust based in Liverpool, England. It provides mental health and learning disability services to people living in the Merseyside area of England. The trust was formed in April 2002 from the merger of North Cheshire Health Authority and South Sefton Health Authority. The trust provides services across a wide range of settings including community mental health teams, inpatient units, residential care homes and secure hospitals. The trust also runs a number of specialist services such as early intervention for psychosis, eating disorders, personality disorder treatment and recovery-focused day hospitals. Mersey Care also works with partner organisations such as the police, local authorities and charities to provide support for those with mental health problems or learning disabilities who are at risk of offending or self-harm. The trust's overall aim is to improve the quality of life for people with mental health issues or learning disabilities by providing effective care that is tailored to individual needs. They strive to ensure that all individuals receive equal access to appropriate services regardless of their gender, race or ethnicity. As part of this commitment they have developed an Equality & Diversity strategy which outlines their approach to reducing discrimination within their organisation and promoting equality throughout its services. The Trust works closely with commissioners, providers and service users in order to develop innovative solutions that meet local needs while delivering high quality care within available resources. They have developed strong links with universities in order to share knowledge on best practice approaches when it comes to developing new models of care delivery. This includes partnerships with universities such as Liverpool John Moores University (LJMU) which has helped them develop pioneering research projects into areas such as dementia care pathways and early intervention for psychosis amongst others
