Bury Primary Care Trust (PCT) was a National Health Service organisation that provided healthcare services in the borough of Bury, Greater Manchester, England. It was established in April 2002 as part of the NHS reorganisation and operated until 2013 when it was abolished and replaced by NHS Bury Clinical Commissioning Group. The PCT had responsibility for commissioning health services from hospitals, community care providers and mental health services in the area. It also provided direct healthcare to people living in Bury through its GP practices, walk-in centres and sexual health clinics. The PCT worked closely with other local organisations such as social services to ensure that people received the best possible care. Bury PCT worked hard to improve access to healthcare for local people by introducing innovative initiatives such as a virtual GP service which allowed patients to contact their doctor via email or telephone without having to attend an appointment. They also developed an online directory of all local health services which made it easier for people to find out about available treatments and support groups in their area. The PCT also supported public engagement initiatives such as ‘Healthy Bury’ which aimed to raise awareness of healthy lifestyle choices amongst local residents. They funded projects such as exercise classes, cooking courses and smoking cessation programmes which were designed to help people make healthier choices about their lifestyles. The work carried out by Bury PCT helped improve access to healthcare for thousands of local residents during its time in operation before being replaced by NHS Bury Clinical Commissioning Group in 2013
