The Western Health and Social Care Trust (WHSCT) is a health and social care trust in Northern Ireland, responsible for providing health and social care services to people living in the Western region of the country. The WHSCT was established in April 2007 following the implementation of the Review of Public Administration (RPA). The Trust provides services to a population of over 500,000 people across seven local government districts: Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon Borough Council; Derry City and Strabane District Council; Fermanagh and Omagh District Council; Mid-Ulster District Council; Newry, Mourne and Down District Council; Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council; Limavady Borough Council.

The WHSCT has responsibility for delivering a range of primary, secondary, community-based and mental health services to its population. It is also responsible for ensuring that all patients receive safe, effective care through the provision of high quality healthcare facilities. The Trust works closely with other organisations including local councils, voluntary organisations and community groups to ensure that it meets its obligations in terms of providing an integrated approach to healthcare delivery.

The WHSCT is committed to improving patient experience by focusing on service quality improvement initiatives such as reducing waiting times for appointments or treatments, increasing patient involvement in decision making processes regarding their care plans and introducing new technology into clinical practice. In addition to this, the Trust is actively involved in developing innovative models of service delivery such as telehealth initiatives which aim to provide remote access to specialist medical advice from GPs or consultants located elsewhere in Northern Ireland or abroad.

The WHSCT also works closely with its partners on public health initiatives aimed at tackling major public health issues such as obesity, smoking cessation programmes or sexual health promotion campaigns. It has developed strong relationships with local schools and colleges so that young people can be informed about healthy lifestyles choices from an early age.
