Public Health Wales is an independent Welsh public health organisation and the national public health agency for Wales. It was established in April 2009 as part of the Welsh Government's drive to improve the health and wellbeing of people living in Wales. The organisation works to protect and improve the health and wellbeing of people in Wales by providing advice, guidance, research, training and services on a range of topics including sexual health, healthy eating, physical activity, alcohol misuse prevention and mental health promotion.

Public Health Wales works closely with local authorities across Wales to ensure that everyone has access to quality healthcare services regardless of where they live or their background. They provide evidence-based advice on public policy issues such as air pollution control measures; reducing smoking prevalence; improving nutrition standards; promoting physical activity; increasing immunisation uptake; reducing obesity levels; improving mental wellbeing among children and young people; preventing alcohol misuse amongst adults etc. Public Health Wales also provides specialist support for those suffering from serious illnesses such as cancer or HIV/AIDS.

In addition to this work at a local level, Public Health Wales also engages with national government bodies such as NHS England and NICE (National Institute for Clinical Excellence) on issues relating to population-level interventions that can help reduce mortality rates across all age groups in England &Wales. This includes developing strategies aimed at tackling lifestyle diseases like diabetes or cardiovascular disease which are major causes of death throughout both countries.

Public Health Wales is committed to working collaboratively with other organisations across sectors (such as education providers) so that all individuals have access to information about how they can lead healthier lives through improved diet choices, increased physical activity levels etc., thereby helping them avoid long term illnesses associated with poor lifestyle choices later down the line
