About The Drum Arts Centre

Welcome to The Drum Birmingham UK’s Premier Intercultural Arts Centre Our Mission: The Drum’s mission is to lead and facilitate the development, presentation and celebration of creative, performing, visual, participative and digital arts for the benefit of all our communities. Our Vision: Our vision is for The Drum to become a premier centre of excellence for intercultural arts and culture that will provide strategic leadership and advocacy – locally, nationally and internationally, and become a progressive, innovative arts community that values its customers, audiences, participants, artists, staff and partners alike. About Us: The Drum is unique in the UK for its offer of intercultural arts dedicated to the development, presentation and celebration of arts and cultural activities of Birmingham’s diverse communities enjoyed by all in the region and nationally. From its origins in the early 1990s determined to address the absence of Black and Minority Ethnic voices and presence in the mainstream, The Drum has evolved into a modern arts organisation serving the needs of diverse audiences and communities locally, regionally and nationally. The Drum is extremely fortunate to have enjoyed the tireless support of countless committed and talented people in the community, and the continuing support of Birmingham City Council and the Arts Council England. The Drum is one of Birmingham’s crown jewels, a thriving arts centre operating in the midst of a deprived area yet connected to a rich past, a present brimming with intercultural opportunities, and a future full of challenges, possibilities and great potential – as indicated by the wealth of creativity across West Midlands and the presence of Europe largest Under 16 population in Birmingham. The Drum aims to: Support the development of contemporary intercultural arts. Involve people from every section of the community in cultural activities that educate, inform, entertain, challenge and delight them. What We Do: The Drums artistic programme presented throughout the year in three seasonal cycles consists of national, international and regional touring product presented alongside arts development and out-reach initiative engaging Birmingham’s diverse communities and a dedicated programme of workshops and arts projects aimed at children and young people.
