Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust (WWL) is an NHS trust located in the North West of England. It provides healthcare services to the people of Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh, as well as the surrounding areas.

The trust was formed in April 2002 when three former trusts merged: Wrightington Hospital, Wigan and Leigh Health Care Services NHS Trust and South Lancashire Community Healthcare. The main hospital sites are at Royal Albert Edward Infirmary in Wigan, Billinge Hospital in Billinge, Thomas Linacre Centre in Ashton-in-Makerfield and Hindley Green Hospital in Hindley Green.

WWL offers a wide range of services including emergency care; general surgery; paediatrics; obstetrics and gynaecology; cardiology; urology; vascular surgery; ENT (ear nose & throat); orthopaedics; mental health care for adults and children. Additionally there is an Urgent Treatment Centre which provides urgent care services such as minor injuries assessment, X-ray facilities for fractures or dislocations plus access to GPs or a nurse practitioner if necessary.

In order to provide its patients with the highest quality of care possible WWL has achieved several accreditations including ISO 9001:2008 Quality Management System Certification from BSI Group plc., Clinical Pathway Accreditation from the National Institute for Health Research Collaboration for Leadership In Applied Health Research And Care (CLAHRC) Northwest Coast , Patient Safety First Award from National Patient Safety Agency (NPSA), among many others .

The trust also works closely with other local providers such as universities to promote research into healthcare issues so that it can continually improve its services for patients . For example WWL is part of a number of research projects related to respiratory illness diagnosis techniques being conducted by Manchester Metropolitan University’s School Of Medicine .
