The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust is a National Health Service (NHS) trust based in Wolverhampton, England. It provides acute and specialist healthcare services to the people of Wolverhampton and surrounding areas. The trust runs two hospitals, New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital, as well as community services such as district nursing, health visiting and sexual health clinics. The trust was established in 2006 following the merger of the former New Cross Hospital NHS Trust with the former Cannock Chase Community Healthcare NHS Trust. The trust has around 4,500 staff members who provide care for more than 600,000 patients each year across its two sites. It is one of the largest employers in Wolverhampton and is committed to providing high quality care to all its patients. The Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust has been recognised for its commitment to improving patient safety through initiatives such as reducing hospital acquired infections and improving medication safety. In 2017 it was awarded an ‘Outstanding’ rating by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), making it one of only four trusts in England to receive this rating at that time. The CQC praised the trust for its “dedication to putting patients first” and noted that staff had a “strong sense of pride” in their work. In addition to providing excellent healthcare services, the Royal Wolverhampton Hospitals NHS Trust also plays an important role in teaching medical students from Keele University Medical School who are based at both New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital throughout their studies.
