Sefton Primary Care Trust (PCT) was an NHS organisation that provided health services in the Sefton area of Merseyside, England. The trust was established in April 2002 and ceased to exist on 1 April 2013, when it was merged with Southport and Formby PCT to form South Sefton Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG). The trust was responsible for providing primary care services, such as GP practices and community health services, as well as secondary care services, such as hospital care. It also had responsibility for commissioning (planning and purchasing) healthcare services from other providers such as private hospitals and voluntary organisations. Sefton PCT worked closely with local authorities to provide integrated health and social care services. It also had a strong focus on public health initiatives, such as promoting healthy lifestyles through exercise programmes and nutrition advice. The trust employed over 2,500 staff across a wide range of professions including doctors, nurses, midwives, pharmacists, physiotherapists, psychologists and managers. It had an annual budget of £550 million in 2012/13 which funded the delivery of healthcare services to around 300,000 people living in the Sefton area.
