Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is a National Health Service (NHS) trust based in Swindon, Wiltshire, England. It provides acute hospital services to the population of North Wiltshire and South Gloucestershire, including Swindon and its surrounding villages. The trust was formed on 1 April 2011 following the merger of the Great Western Hospital and West Wiltshire Primary Care Trusts.

The trust runs two hospitals: Great Western Hospital at Marlborough Road in Swindon; and Chippenham Community Hospital at Oxford Road in Chippenham. The trust also provides community health services to people living in North Wiltshire, South Gloucestershire and Bath & North East Somerset through its integrated care organisation, Wiltshire Health & Care Ltd.

The trust provides a range of specialist services which include a 24-hour emergency department with consultant led medical team on site; critical care; maternity services including midwifery led birthing unit; cancer treatment centre; kidney dialysis unit; neonatal intensive care unit as well as general medicine and surgery. Additional services provided by the trust include orthopaedics, ophthalmology, urology, gynaecology and paediatrics departments.

The trust works closely with other healthcare providers to ensure that patients receive quality healthcare across different settings such as nursing homes or GP surgeries to make sure they get access to appropriate care when needed.

The trust focuses on patient safety by making sure that all staff have up-to-date training so they are able to provide high quality care at all times. It participates in a range of national clinical audits so it can monitor its performance against national standards for patient safety and satisfaction.. In addition it has implemented an electronic prescribing system which reduces errors associated with traditional paper prescriptions as well as increasing efficiency for ordering medications for patients within hospital settings or outpatients attending clinics..

As part of its commitment to providing excellent customer service, the trust offers virtual appointments which allow patients to speak with their doctor over video conferencing instead of having face-to-face appointments if required due to distance or time constraints.. Additionally it runs regular Friends & Family surveys which gather feedback from relatives about their experience while visiting family members within one of the two hospitals.. Patients are able monitor how long they have waited for treatments via an online tracker system which helps them plan accordingly throughout their hospital journey
