The Cheshire and Wirral Partnership NHS Foundation Trust (CWP) is a provider of mental health services in the North West of England. It provides services to people across Cheshire and Wirral, as well as parts of Lancashire, Merseyside and Greater Manchester. The trust was formed in April 2001 from the merger of the Cheshire and Wirral Health Authority with the Chester Mental Health Care Trust. The trust provides a range of mental health services for adults, older people, children and young people. These include community mental health teams, crisis resolution teams, rehabilitation teams, acute care units, specialist personality disorder services and secure units. The trust also runs an alcohol service that works with individuals who have alcohol-related problems or those at risk of developing them. CWP has a strong focus on improving patient experience by providing high quality care that is tailored to individual needs. They aim to ensure that patients receive timely access to appropriate treatment with minimum disruption to their lives while they are receiving treatment from CWP’s specialist teams. To support this focus on patient experience they have developed initiatives such as ‘Care Quality Reviews’ which involve feedback from patients about their experiences with CWP’s services so that any areas for improvement can be identified quickly and addressed appropriately. In addition to providing direct clinical care CWP also offers an extensive range of training programmes which are aimed at improving skills among staff working in mental health settings across the region; these programmes cover topics such as communication skills, risk assessment and management as well as leadership development for managers working in mental health settings. The trust has achieved recognition for its work by winning numerous awards including; 'Hospital Care Provider Award' from the Healthcare People Management Association (HPMA), 'Highly Commended' award at the National Clinical Excellence Awards 2017/18; 'Mental Health Team Award' at the Guardian Public Service Awards 2018/19; 'Healthcare Provider Award' at National Institute For Health Research's Clinical Research Network North West Coast Innovation Awards 2018/19; 'Highly Commended' award at The Parliamentary Review 2019/20 & 2020/21; amongst many others!
