Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust (BHRUT) is a large teaching hospital located in the London Boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Havering and Redbridge. It is one of the largest trusts in England, providing care for more than 1 million people from across north east London and beyond.

The trust was formed in April 2000 as part of the government's modernisation programme for the NHS. It provides a wide range of services including accident & emergency, critical care, maternity, outpatients and specialist services such as cancer care, stroke services and paediatrics.

BHRUT is a major employer with over 6500 staff members working across its two main sites - Queen's Hospital in Romford and King George Hospital in Ilford. The trust also runs five community hospitals which provide acute medical services to local communities across east London. In addition to its core clinical activities, BHRUT has strong links with universities such as Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) where it works closely on research projects.

As an organisation that serves a diverse population it is committed to ensuring that all patients receive equitable access to healthcare regardless of their ethnicity or social background. This commitment has seen BHRUT invest heavily in programmes aimed at tackling health inequalities within its catchment area such as providing free health checks for those who may not be able to afford them otherwise.

The trust has also been recognised for its efforts to improve patient safety by achieving Foundation Trust status in 2011 – one of only four trusts nationwide at the time – which gives it greater autonomy over how it manages resources whilst remaining accountable to both patients and local authorities alike.
