Autogenic Training (AT) provides the core of the 'Help for Stress' course. AT is an effective stress-management technique which was developed by medical practitioners. It is supported by a respected and growing body of research and is available in London on the NHS. A controlled trial with 50 nursing students found that the number of working days lost through sickness was reduced by Autogenic Training compared with no treatment. A second trial reported improvement in Trait Anxiety.The AT group also showed significantly greater reduction in blood pressure and pulse rate immediately after taking the course.
